The Frederick H. Leonhardt (FHL) Foundation has opened a new blog entitled “Bowlby Less Traveled” (BLT). According to the Foundation’s president, Rick Leonhardt, the BLT Blog will be about, around, and against the work of John Bowlby in the area of attachment theory. Rather than riding on well-traveled highways, the BLT Blog will wind through Bowlby’s work on less-traveled side roads and pathways. Sphere O’Blog News (not a real news agency but roll with it) sent a reporter to the Foundation’s offices in Albuquerque to interview Mr. Leonhardt on the Foundation’s decision to open the Bowlby Less Traveled Blog.
SOBN – Congratulations on the new BLT Blog.
Rick – Thanks much.
SOBN – First off, did you mean for the blog name to have the initials BLT?
Rick – No, we had the idea for the name before we realized that a famous sandwich shares the initials, namely, the bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich. But then we realized that maybe we could use this to our advantage.
SOBN – How so?
Rick – Well, this blog will contain content about, around, and against John Bowlby’s work. So, the bacon is the core of the sandwich—the “about”; the lettuce covers the core or is “around” the core; and tomatoes are the “against” of the sandwich because they usually get thrown when people are displeased.
SOBN – The tomato analogy part is a bit weak …
Rick – … totally agree. But the BLT idea does point out that BLT Blog content should track what’s bacon, what’s lettuce, and what’s tomato. Philosophically, we’re talking about object (bacon), context (lettuce), and some countervailing view (tomato).
SOBN – What, no bread and mayo? (laughing)
Rick – Good point. I’ll give the “bread and mayo” roles some thought.
SOBN – In the next post, give us examples of bacon. lettuce, and tomato drawn from the world of John Bowlby’s work.
Rick – Be happy to.
